2008 TOUR ITINERARY
|

Days 1 & 2 (Sat 11/8 - Sun 11/9): USA-BANGKOK flight.
Day 3 (Mon 11/10): BANGKOK. Arrive Bangkok (or come a few days early see our Bangkok sightseeing suggestions listed under OPTIONAL TRIP EXTRAS below). Check into the hotel, rest, & relax. Two nights hotel in Bangkok.
DAY 4 (Tue 11/11): BANGKOK. Group tour of Bangkok’s amazing WAT PHO, the oldest temple in Bangkok, featuring Thailand’s largest reclining GOLDEN BUDDHA (80 feet long; the soles of the Buddha’s feet are mother of pearl stone). Enjoy a Thai massage for $4 per hour or have your fortune told by a Buddhist monk ($20 donation). Meals: (Breakfast).
Days 5 - 8(Wed 11/12 - Sat 11/15): SUKHOTHAI & THE LOI KRATHONG FESTIVAL. We’ll travel to Old Sukhothai, the first true capital of the Kingdom of Siam built seven centuries ago. We’ll spend four days enjoying the festival and the DAWN OF HAPPINESS temple ruins, five acres of giant outdoor Buddhas! In the evening, under the full moon, you’ll see why this is the most spectacular festival in Thailand! Over one million Thais salute the “Spirits of the Water” during the LOI KRATHONG FESTIVAL with parades, Thai dance, food vendors, Thai boxing, massage, & handicrafts. Optional activities: Learn how to makethe ancient Krathong Boats celebrated at the LOI KRATHONG FESTIVAL, which we will float on the old Sukhothai moats, making merit to the Water Spirits ($20 pp). Four nights hotel in Sukhothai. Meals: (Breakfast).
Day 9 (Sun 11/16): SUKHOTHAI to CHIANG MAI. Arrive Chiang Mai in the morning. Chiang Mai is in the north of Thailand, an intriguing old walled city surrounded by ancient moats and the lovely Ping River. Visit the famous NIGHT MARKET for a taste of it’s lively atmosphere, handicrafts, & incredible bargains. Tour the spectacular mountain monastery, DOI SUTEP, with breathtaking views of Chiang Mai and the surrounding countryside. Two nights hotel in Chiang Mai. Meals (Breakfast).
Day 10 (Mon 11/17): CHIANG MAI. Free day.
Some suggestions: • Daytrip to visit HILL TRIBE villages. ($50 pp). • KHANTOKE DINNER complimented by classical Thai, Hill Tribe, and folk dancing. ($20 pp). • Daytrip to the ELEPHANT TRAINING CAMP. Ride elephants! ($25 pp). • Take a THAI COOKING class. $50 (half day).

Day 11 (Tue 11/18): CHIANG MAI to BANGKOK. Free morning. In the afternoon, we depart by overnight train to Bangkok.
DAY 12 (Wed 11/19): BANGKOK & FLIGHT HOME. Arrive Bangkok in the morning and connect with your international flight back to the USA. We recommend you stay extra days in Thailand (see our trip extras below). Or travel to CAMBODIA (5 days) to visit the famous ANGKOR WAT temple and/or VIETNAM.
